So Tough

This is what my kid comes back looking like after a day with the scouts. They were playing football. Tackle football. I named this image "bestkid1" because he is the bestest kid I could have asked for. Just look at his shirt. He's not ashamed to wear it. It says, "Born of goodly parents". I miss him so much when he goes to scout camp, I can't imagine how much I'll miss him when he goes off to live at college or serve a two year mission for our church. He's got a nearly six foot 245 pound tough exterior, but he's mush inside :)

Isn't he awesome? We are so lucky.
By the way I loved your talk on Sunday. Compassion and service are things that I need to work on as well. I'm not very good at serving others. For some reason (I blame my childhood) I worry that I will be in the way or my service will be unwelcome, and so it's so hard for me to offer it, mostly to strangers or people outside of my family.
In my own home, I'm not so good with Joel. He's like you, "shake it off!" and so it's sort of made my heart hard and bitter towards him when he has pain and suffering because of his lack of compassion towards me.
It's not right, I know. I should work on it.

Wow, you re one lucky mom to have such a mellow, level headed young man for a son. I'm so happy for you, and can't help but luv him from afar.
