Up your nose with a rubber hose

All you AI haters! FINALLY Jason Castro has been given the boot. Sure he was cute. Sure he had a good personality. Sure he had adorable blue eyes. Sure he belongs singing on a tv show with big purple dinosaurs or something. No, he does not belong on Rick Dee's top 40's.
I haven't checked out their site this year, but I'm pretty sure Jason's the one they kept voting through. Rude.
Now we can get on with the real talent.

{Joshua, I love you}

Yep, that's what the note said. The note that was left in my Kindergartner's cubby. No signature, just a smiley face at the bottom. He told me two girls names he thought it could be. I thought it might be either of them too.

They start so young....

Or do they?

I remember having my first crush on a boy when I was in Kindergarten. He was in the First Grade. Todd Klein. His father owned some store that sold TVs or something. I still remember his birthday party. He got a bird. We went for pizza. His mom repeatedly kept asking me to stop swinging my legs and kicking her. I couldn't help myself. I was just so happy to be in love with the birthday boy. The love affair was short lasted, once I discovered Brett Hintze.

Today was my day to volunteer in Joshua's classroom. I watched the two girls, looking for clues. One of them asked me if Joshua drank milk in the morning... hmmm.... is that a signal that she's concerned for the bone density of my son and his prospects of being a long walking- non- hip-breaking partner?

The other girl just kept looking at me and smiling....hmmm.... trying to get on the Mom's good side?

Wordless Wednesday

I'm sure this one gets used a lot for WW, but I just needed the giggle today.

Heads Or Tails Tuesday

Today's prompt is heads- "Mother". For more HOT participants or to play along go here.

How fitting since this Sunday we celebrate mothers all over the country this Sunday, (other countries that celebrate Mother's Day on the second Sunday in May include: Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Japan, and Turkey).
I thought I would share what this site says about how Mother's Day started in America.

It's said that Mother's Day was first suggested in the United Sates by Julia Ward Howe in 1872 as a day dedicated to peace after the Franco Prussian War. Ironically, the idea waned in popularity in the years before World War I. The holiday was revived thanks to Anna M. Jarvis.
Anna's dear mother was a minister's daughter and Sunday School teacher from West Virginia who graduated from an all female seminary, organized women's brigades during the Civil War to care for soldiers on both sides of the conflict, and ultimately settled in Philadelphia. Anna was twelve when she heard her mother teach a Sunday School lesson on mothers in the Bible. Still unmarried when her mother passed away in 1905, Anna was left alone with her blind sister Elsinore. She missed her mother dearly and felt we all too often fail to appreciate our mothers enough while they are alive. So, with the help of friends, Anna began a letter-writing campaign to garner support for a national Mother's Day holiday. Reaching out to influential leaders, including William Taft, Theodore Roosevelt, and John Wannamaker, Anna poured out a stream of solicitations for support of the idea. She believed, mothers deserved their own special day and that it would help strengthen family bonds.
She persuaded her mother's church in West Virginia to celebrate Mother's Day on the second anniversary of her mother's death, the 2nd Sunday of May. Carnations, her mother's favorite flowers, were supplied at that first service by Anna. White carnations were chosen because they represented the sweetness, purity and endurance of mother love. Over time, pink or red carnations became the symbol of a living mother, with white ones signifying those who had passed on. By 1911 Mother's Day was celebrated in almost every state, and flowers quickly became a lasting tradition to express love on the occasion. In 1914, Congress passed a resolution designating the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day, "a public expression of love and reverence for the mothers of our country." President Woodrow Wilson issued the first proclamation making it an official U.S. holiday.

I remember once my mother telling me that her favorite flower is the carnation. I am not sure the reason, but I like them because they last for so long and they come in such wonderful colors now.

I would like to take this time to thank my own mother, LeRae, for all the years of love, sacrifice, work, sweat and tears that she invested in raising me. I am thankful for the relationship that we have now. I wish so much that I could see her more often and I regret decisions I've made that have kept me so far from my family, most especially her. I love you mom and I hope that you have a wonderful weekend that leaves you feeling all the love that your children and grandchildren have for you!

Cut, cut

It took me long enough to get these uploaded, but finally I have. So last week as I was about to walk out the door to run some errands Jake discovered Joy cleaning up a mess and found that she had cut her hair. I was in a hurry, it was snowy and I had to get dinner going for Joel so he could go to work and get my shopping done. I sat on the kitchen floor and cried, which freaked her out and she kept crying saying, "I'm sorry Mommy, I'm so sorry!" But I kept crying for good measure.

So I got out to the van, and my wipers are falling off. It's snowing outside. So I had to get Joel's truck cleaned out enough to put her car seat in it and took her to the hairdresser. Luckily they were able to save most of the length. She worked in the second chop as layers.

I hope she never cuts her hair again. This is the second time she's done it... some people might remember the story of her cutting her bangs so horribly after I took pictures of the girls in their Easter dresses.

Wish I looked...

as young as I sound. Apparently I sound too young to have a teenage son, because this is the second time I've called into the school for Jake being sick and they've called my cell phone confirming that it was me. She said I sounded too young. Well, glad to see the 10 years of smoking didn't ruined that for me! Now if I could just stop these crows feet!

Joke

If April showers bring May flowers, what do May flowers bring?

I haven't entered any contests for this Mother's Day giveaway, mainly because I woulnd't use many of these, but I know a lot of women who would, so go check it out!

Sad Sunday

My kids are confused about the race yesterday and keep asking me questions about why they had to destroy Eight Belles. It's hard for them to understand that horses aren't like people. We can't put them in a wheel chair, and one leg being hurt (as in Barbaro's case) can cause lameness in the other legs from the extra added weight.

We also have a family in our ward who are expecting their first baby. Sadly, this baby that has been long awaited for has several health issues, Down's Syndrome and a heart defect to name a couple. Today they weren't at church because they were in the hospital because of the baby. I think the little girl is due in July. I am hoping that things became stable and that they are ok. I wish I knew more specifically what to be praying for.

I remember when I had an episode in my pregnancy with Joshua, at 27 weeks along, where I know my water broke and my clothes were drenched in blood down to my knees. We had been outside enjoying a campfire, Jake had a friend over. The friend was teasing me and I got up and began to chase him, and fell a little. Nothing big. Later I had to cough and noticed a gush sensation when I did. It was dark outside so I went into the house to see what was up. I remember panicking when I saw blood, and the amount of it. I called Joel, sent the friend across the street back to his house, and we called the in-laws telling them to expect Jacob in a minute. As we got Jake and ourselves into the car Jacob was asking questions I didn't know the answers to about what was going on. I remember a peace coming over me as I told him, no matter what happens, this baby was ours. If not in this life, in the next. How thankful I was at that moment for the sealing power of the Priesthood, knowing that my children were sealed to me for eternity.

After we dropped Jake off, we headed for the hospital. I couldn't get the baby to move, no matter how much I poked and prodded. On the way to the hospital I called our Home Teachers to meet us there. They were so quick! They even beat the nurse with the heart rate monitor. We were left in the room for a few private moments, long enough for them to administer a healing blessing on me and the baby. I knew then that everything would be OK. When the nurse came in, she was able to quickly find a pulse for the baby, and immediately the bleeding and gushing stopped.

I stayed in the hospital over night, receiving two different ultra-sounds, neither of which could find a cause for leaking or blood. The Priesthood blessing had healed us. 11 weeks later I gave birth to a 9lb 6 oz beautiful baby boy.

I know it's not going to turn out so wonderful for this family, and I so wish it would! I wish with all my heart that things were different. However, I am thankful that this family has the comfort of the everlasting Gospel of Jesus Christ to help them through this trial. I've heard their testimonies of faith, and of how they have already been blessed by God through this heartbreaking ordeal. People have been placed in their path to help them through this. They have not been left alone or comfortless. What a blessing that has been.

Kentucky Derby Winner

Well it was a beautiful day for a race! Sunny, breezy, the horses all shining and beautiful. My favorites, Eight Belles, Smooth Air and Monba.

NO WAY! BIG BROWN won from the 20th post! Freaking amazing. Although he wasn't my favorite, I was tearing up watching him pull from the farthest outside to take the lead. Amazing!!!

Sadly, our girlie girl Eight Belles, who came in second, was injured and at this time lays in the track with the equine ambulance headed her way... I'm so sad. Eight Belles was riden by an inexperienced 20-year old rookie jockey named Gabriel Saez.

ETA: They euthanized Eight Belles on the track that she came in on. This is so sad. The first filly to run in the Kentucky Derby since 1999. Poor thing broke her ankles racing against the big boys.

People are wierd

Someone from Pakistan found my blog by doing a Google search for "bra thumbs". Hahaha. I imagine they found me because for a Thursday's Thumbs post I gave a workout bra a thumbs up.

Derby Day!

If I were to buy a hat for the Kentucky Derby, this would be the one, hahaha.
I am a derby girl! I love horses. I have loved horses from the time I could walk, my mom has the gray hairs to prove it from the time she found me when I was very little outside in the backyard right under the horses bellies in our corral. She freaked out, but the horses stood as still as ever.
When I was 12 my dad bought me my own horse, Gidget. I spent 90% of my free time for the the next two years on Gidge either just riding around, or in western horse shows, or parades in the summer.
When I was a little girl I would dream of being a jockey, that was never to be, but I still have my dreams ;)
Today my picks are (and I tend to avoid the popular vote, and love to root for the underdogs) in no particular order, they are just the ones I'm rooting for:

Monba- 20/1- he was my first favorite, and I don't remember what made him my favorite, maybe something I heard about him and have forgotten. Maybe it's the name ;)

Smooth Air-25/1- This one became my favorite, after hearing about his 70 year old trainer,Bennie Stutts Jr., who has been a trainer for over 40years, and almost gave up the dream of having one of his horses make it to the Kentucky Derby. And now- today- he has finally had his dream realized. The horse almost had to be scratched after running a high fever last week, but seems to be back in top form for today's race. Watching a story about him, seeing him choke up as he entered the racing track and approached the Winner's Circle, I choked up with him. I can only imagine his feelings of joy, excitement, humility, and gratitude at making it to this final big day. I hope his horse runs really well for him, he should do really well against today's favorite Big Brown. On March 29 he went head to head with Big Brown in the Florida Derby and finished second. Run a good race baby!

Eight Belles- 16/1- Come on! You don't expect me to leave the only girl in the race hanging without another female's fanfare! You Go Girl!!!

{I love the whole world}

Calling all Blogger Gurus

I am in need of assistance. I would like to know how I can change my blog to have the stripes on the side, but to have another paper in the center. I got the sides figured out, but can't get the center to show up.
This is the part of the code I have it on...

#header-wrapper:#fff url("http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y65/1MigraineMommy1/sara_sweetrubbish_cream_paper.png"); margin:0; padding: 0; background-color: $headerCornersColor; text-align: $startSide;

Maybe that's wrong. Can anyone tell me?

What is the key, anyway, for when you are looking at someone's blog and you want to see their template codes? I used to know it but have forgotten it.
